For the last two years, I've had the same New Year's resolution. Meet Jane Goodall. She's one of those people I just needed to see. A pioneer in science and wildlife, Jane's become a fierce advocate for peace, voice, people and animal welfare and she's long been one of my personal heroes.
It turns out she doesn't come to Portland often. So I had to stalk her. I grabbed a weekend ticket to fly just to see her speak. Magical.
In line for the book signing, K asked me what I would say to her and I burst into tears. Because hello? What is it that you say to Jane Goodall? How do you package esteem and gratitude neatly into sentences?
You don't. The best I could do was nod. Not cry. Simply say thank you. And do my best to be a little more like her.
