Perched on Portland's pedestrian bridge, with a good tripod, warm jacket (hello wind!) and take-out Thai food, we waited for the rising moon.
Which was awesome, naturally. But what was even cooler? The astronomy geeks. They gathered— invited by OMSI—set up their telescopes and shared the view with anyone interested. WOW.
I get kind of obsessed with these things. The sub-groups of our culture. The things that we all get into a little deeper than others (ahem, circus arts). It was so gratifying to see these star guys in their element, with their community, proudly explaining lenses and telling stories of how they started—like stargazing with their dad in the backyard. It's moments like these that really make me smile.
